It’s Opening Night of ChromaQueer !
Opening Night showcases a broad array of bold voices, diversely talented queer Ottawa-based artists, with literary, musical, dance, drag, and theatrical performances.
On-stage performances are interspersed with choice Canadian and acclaimed International short films. Invited guest directors and actors in attendance!

Our Opening Night shorts include:
● Ottawa’s Tatum Thompson depicts a coming-out conversation as a party game in 1990s style with their smart and inspired short film “Seven Minutes In the Closet”
● A HotDocs/Citizen Minutes short of local Ottawa comedian “Janelle Niles: Inconvenient”
● Welsh queer Director Peter Darney visits Ottawa this week with an artist talk and a Saturday screening of acclaimed queer Welsh Films. Tonight, we present his latest acclaimed comedy “Teth” !
● Montreal’s Atif Siddiqi brings awareness to the potential dangers of dating men online & shares a musical response to adversity in "Tranie Tronic: Beauty is Revenge”
● Ottawa film community builder & Chinese-Canadian independent filmmaker Hingman Leung explores how break-ups can affect the custody of plant life in “Pot Bound.

A 90's coming of age short. After being paired together for a game of seven minutes in heaven, Ryan and Ian help each other come to terms with their sexualities, once they figured out that neither of them want to kiss the other. Created with assistance from DARC's Media Art Production Fund

Rowan and Nico just broke up, and their custody battle over a dying plant forces them to confront the never-ending battle of who was right and who was wrong. But what if breaking up wasn’t the worst thing to happen? Produced by Moonrise Productions, written by Nathalie Hunter, and created with an Ottawa based crew of frequent collaborators Adrienne Row - Smith, Hingman Leung, and Justin Li, actors Armonia Joachim and Joshua Soucie.

After his gender affirming top surgery, a son and father’s new relationship is disrupted when their dog steals a fallen nipple to chew on. Teth is a heartwarming Welsh Language comedy that provides vital representation to the trans-male community.
Beauty is Revenge (2024) by Atif Y. Siddiqi

The filmmaker, aka Tranie Tronic, brings awareness to the potential dangers of dating men online and tells the tale of the incident that inspired their latest album Transgression (15 mins)
